the collection
The works from the willy michel foundation, which stem largely from a donation by the founder of the museum, Willy Michel, as well as donations from Franz Gertsch, compose the main basis of the museum's collection. This displays almost without a break the complete works of Franz Gertsch in the period from 1987 to 2004. Specifically, these are the portrait Silvia I and the four large-format paintings Gräser I-IV.
A further emphasis of the collection is on the woodcuts by Franz Gertsch. Among these is the monumental installation of four triptychs titled Das Grosse Gras each measuring 400cm x 850cm, various works from the Schwarzwasser-series (two triptychs, a diptych as well as Schwarzwasser I) and also the most recent monumental woodcut Maria.
The museum has also complemented its collection with works lent by other museums and private donors and strives continually to obtain further works for the collection.
